Bloganuary Prompt #18: What book is next on your reading list?

Hard to say since luxury time for reading books these days is pretty much confined to waiting at appointments or bedtime.

I’m still a tactile, hardcover gal so reading relaxes me enough to easily fall asleep. But that also means sometimes finding the bookmark or a highlighter on the quilt the next morning, or re-reading the same page several nights in a row, taking longer to finish the book. (Unless it’s a page turner of course…then I’ll be up to 3AM or so.)

The bookcase overflows with stacks of titles waving to me. This ranges from The Quiet Don (which proved difficult bedtime reading) to two books I recently picked up at a used book shop: If You Could See What I See, and Death: The Final Stage of Growth.

There’s many more on the shelf, too, that either chirp,”Pick me! Pick me!” such as The Best of Us and When Love Meets Fear: Becoming Defense-less and Resource-full, or skulk in waiting because they didn’t readily speak to me like The Nature of Personal Reality or Enneagram II.

I’m also one of those readers who has a few books going simultaneously. Sylvia Browne’s Book of Angels interrupted The Cottswolds – A Cultural History which I opened during Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. While I’ve finished reading the other two, by the time I complete the Cottswolds book who knows what topic I’ll be seeking. It may be something entirely different borrowed from the local library.

So, to answer the question in complete honestly, I’d have to say, “Your guess is as good as mine.” 🙂

  1. That is a lot of reading and yes, they are all paper. I do not support using anymore tech than absolutely necessary…and the tactile feel of a book (and comfort of a library) is much more pleasant than an electronic light ruining my eyes and keeping me hyped so I can’t sleep. The only benefit I could ever see in an e-reader is for travel (books can be heavy)…but with ccp/covid mandates that won’t be happening anytime soon — or at least until the world has returned to some sense of sanity. 🙂 Thanks for reading!
