Bloganuary Prompt #28: What is on your music playlist right now?

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. — Plato

Ha! Don’t laugh. I’m presuming a playlist is a group of music for an MP3 player, supposedly smart phone, or some other current device. Ha! I suppose some find it laughable that my current playlist is any particular genre in the CD player.

No surprise though, to those who know I’m basically a neo-Luddite and sans tech by choice. The mountain alcove around my home precludes satellite, and the CD player works fine, thank you. The biggest problem is still finding CDs for purchase (or more room to house them in the armoire.

But on to the question. Any genre of the 200 CDs in the player could be my current playlist — it just depends on my mood or activity. Favorites are smooth jazz along with classical guitar, Latin, world, chill lounge, fiddling and folk music, dance and rock, reggae, Motown, blues, African, classical, and new age. Did I say I love music?

Lately, my listening pleasure is either someone I’ve recently discovered, or new music from an old favorite like: Karen Briggs, Brian Simpson, Steve Oliver, Vincent Ingala, Konstantin Klashtorni

On their own, or Unified, I love listening to Brian Simpson and Steve Oliver
Vincent Ingala, my latest sax find

…along with Matt Marshak who’s essentially left the smooth jazz genre to pursue folk and country, but his Harlem River Drive song is a mainstay —

— particularly while driving on serene country roads…along with the Afronaut’s Afro Lounge Experience, Afro Celt Sound System or or Oliver Mtukudzi.

And when I really want to liven things up, for some robust house cleaning or gardening, it’s Jesse Cooke, Rising Appalachia, Diplomats of Solid Sound, and Queen Ifrica.

There’s just too many exceptional musicians to pick from. But, isn’t that a great problem to have? That’s also why the CD player and armoire are bulging with CDs, vinyl, and yes, those dinosaur cassettes. I can’t imagine a world without music, could you?

  1. What you say is true; CDs do scratch easily and skip…but the cassettes also get stuck sometimes in the player. That said, if you’d ever like my cassette tape collection and you are in the area, you are welcome to it. 🙂

  2. Well that makes a lot of sense! If I ever downsize I will keep that in mind. Come to think of it, though, isn’t that what they told us when introducing computers — that we would have a paperless society? 🙂

  3. Guess a playlist is really just an album of your favorites. I have Spotify on my TV these days. You type in a song you would like to play. If you like it you can then put the song in a folder of your favorites. That becomes your playlist 😊. I grew up with tapes and records. I lime Sootify cause i dont need to store anything. Handy when you are in an apartment.
